ABOUT THE PROJECT
Ladies and Gentleman,
At the beginning of 2018, the Director of the Castle Museum in Malbork, dr hab. Janusz Trupinda appointed a team to research war losses. Its main goal is to create a catalog of war losses and scattered collections of castles in Malbork and Kwidzyn. In carrying out the entrusted task, a project entitled “Study of war losses in the field of artistic collections of castles in Malbork and Kwidzyn” was prepared for the years 2018-2019, that received funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage program entitled “Study of Polish war losses”, in the amount of PLN 105,407 (for 2018 – PLN 25,300, 2019 – PLN 80,170).
One of the activities envisaged in the project was to create a tab at the home website of the museum as a place containing information about the program and its implementation, with current updates on the progress of the tasks carried out by the research team. While we created the tab, it quickly became clear that its capabilities are insufficient for the capacity of the conducted project. This is how the idea of creating a separate website that you have the opportunity to browse was born.
The website is an expression of our need to share knowledge in the field of war losses, the history of the Malbork and Kwidzyn artefacts, entire collections, individual objects, people creating this history and activities related to the implementation of the project. This is a place where we want to interface with our recipients and have contact with people who can support us in these activities, as well as just for the sheer pleasure of sharing our work!
The project carried out in the last two years brought a lot of interesting information, dispelled some of our doubts, expanded our knowledge and provided new research leads. In November 2019, we prepared a new project for 2020, a continuation of the previous one, which also received a ministerial subsidy from the “Study of Polish War Losses”program – a considerable amount of PLN 160,727. We intend to allocate it, among others for the transcription and translation of archival material obtained in previous years and a publication which, being an edition of an extremely interesting source on the history of the Malbork Castle monuments, will bring you closer to the history of the castle collections.
Thanks to the obtained funds, we can also present you a new version of our website, which is constantly evolving. The changed external form contains completely new possibilities, both for the people who create it and its users. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to sing up for our newsletter, thanks to which you will always be up to date and in contact with us about the results of our work.
